LaNora Foster

Dr. LaNora M. J. Foster, a native of Florence, SC, is a veteran public school teacher with a
total of twenty-three years teaching experience in Washington, DC, Maryland, and South
Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History with Secondary Education certification
from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC; a Masters in Education in Secondary
Education from Cambridge College, Cambridge, MA; and a doctorate’s degree in
Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Foster’s
dissertation research focused on the recruitment and retention of highly qualified teachers.
She currently teaches International Baccalaureate Psychology HL & SL, Years 1 and 2 in
Florence, SC.
Dr. Foster is an avid believer in lifelong learning as evidenced by her completing two years of graduate studies in Intercultural Communication from Howard University in Washington, DC and recently earned a graduate certificate in Online Teaching from Clemson University while teaching virtually during the pandemic. Dr. Foster has also successfully completed
numerous local and national professional trainings in public speaking, teacher leadership, classroom management, advocating, cognitive coaching, and empowerment. Dr. Foster has developed successful skills in classroom management and facilitated students’ learning of the 16 Habits of Mind while teaching in a wide range of schools with student populations across socioeconomic spectrum, from schools in affluent, middle/working, and below-poverty communities on the middle and high school levels to experience teaching within an alternative school in a metropolitan area.
It is through Dr. Foster’s personal experience as being a new teacher to school faculties and a mentor to new teachers that a passion was kindled for creating a nurturing and empowering environment for new teachers to develop into confident professionals within public schools. Over the years, Dr. Foster has been fortunate to assist new teachers to the profession, second-career teachers, and international teachers in becoming acclimated to the teaching profession in the capacity of New Teacher Academy Coordinator, Mentor Teacher, and Department Chairperson. Dr. Foster has created a YouTube and is currently facilitating a Facebook group, both entitled: New Teacher Notes, whose focus is to provide a mentoring resource for teachers who are new to the profession, teachers who are beginning their second or third career, and international teachers.
